For many applications, this approach is inadequate and has spawned entire industries to take the ice from one configuration to another. One example is the medical field where primary care providers purchase expensive and complex machines to shave ice to pack wounds. Another example is the restaurant/beverage industry that uses complex machines and blenders to crush ice -- often times completely silencing a room while the machines are in operation.
